Why Nintendo Announced The 3DS So Early and Without Much Detail

I think we can all agree that Nintendo's reveal of the 3DS was a little weird. It's hardly Business 101 to know you've got to hold off announcing new products before the previous one has gone on sale.

Turns out, Nintendo was pretty much forced into announcing it early, thanks to some Japanese journalists who'd been sniffing around suppliers and had discovered the existence of the product themselves. That does mean we could be seeing more leaks in the weeks leading up to E3, as these journalists will understandably want to put their hard work to good use, however much Nintendo has gagged them with NDAs and threats. Anyone got some photos they'd like to leak? [CNBC via Kotaku]
